Bruce today is excited to release a new historical fiction novel, Proud Waves Be Stilled, via his personal imprint.

Liverpool, 1861. In the early days of the American Civil War the Union and the Confederacy carry on a clandestine war in the streets of this cosmopolitan port city. Both sides are vying for influence with Britain, both sides clawing for advantage through any means available.

Assassination, assault, robbery, bribery and blackmail, all are tools of their trade. Henry Wilding, assistant Union Consul, and now de facto Union spymaster, must battle Confederate agents and his own inner demons from the Mexican War to stop the illegal construction of warships designed to break the Union Blockade and gain diplomatic recognition for the Confederacy.

His boss, Consul Thomas Dudley, insists they scrupulously observe English law despite the willingness of their foe, Confederate Captain James Bulloch’s, willingness to use violence to press the Confederate advantage. But when Dudley is assaulted and robbed, Henry must choose between principle and his desire to take the war to Bulloch.
